Crafting a Spiritual Practice

BBC Radio 4

Over the years, I have learned that everything we do, whether intentional or not, whether we’re magickal practitioners or not, all has an energy about it: Good, bad, right, or wrong, we leave a mark that flows over into our work, home, hobbies, and everyday lives. Because of this, my own personal spiritual practice is eclectic, born from many different disciplines and traditions of Witchcraft, and I have an interest in the Celts and Druidry, as well.

I’ve been a practicing Pagan now for over twenty years, during which time, I’ve also learned many different craft/art techniques that I weave into my spiritual practice and magickal workings as much as possible. I have an extensive knowledge of the fiber arts, especially, from spinning and weaving to making different forms of lace, and all things in between. Currently, I run a craft business and co-own a produce business. So when I look at my own personal spiritual practice, I see a connection between the past with its lost arts and this modern age of wonder in which I live.

Recently, I watched a video of a young gentleman who made an entire outfit from start to finish. I realize you are probably thinking he went to the fabric store to purchase the necessary material for it. But, no, he actually made all the fabric used in his clothing. He harvested the fibers, spun them, wove them, and made his garments from that material, which, when all the math was done, cost over $4,000. This gives us some understanding of why, unless you’re financially well off, you might have only one or two suits (or none); it demonstrates how much time and money goes into many of the items we buy.

This can cause a hardship when it comes to our spiritual practice, because there are a lot of us (particularly those just starting out on a Pagan Path), who feel we need to purchase everything we use in our Craft (and crafts). But that simply isn’t true. Here at COFF, we believe that the more you put into your studies, the more you will get out of them — and that’s true for most things, including the creation of magickal tools and focal points that help us move forward on our Path. For that reason, I’m all about Crafting (and crafting) on a budget and finding ways to work with Nature and our own hands.

So with my own blog posts from the Cauldron and Forge, I hope to bring you some new perspectives and ideas, along with some fun ways to create a wonderfully magical life, one in which you will always feel connected to Mother Earth and the community in which you live.

Blessings!
