Magickal Waters

To further our research in a potions study we’re currently engaging in during our Tuesday Tea chats at COFF. we covered magickal waters — which in and of itself is an interesting topic all on its own. When it comes to waters, you have many different options, from moon, to floral, gem and crystal waters, and even colognes. Waters can be used to enhance any of your workings and are very easy to create, to the point that with some waters, you just need to set a jar of water outside.

Two of the easiest waters to get are weather and celestial. The weather waters are very easy to collect; simply place a jar outside during a storm or gentle rain, and in winter, collect snow and let it melt. Personally, I strain the water to remove impurities before I store it for later use. Solar and moon waters are just jars of water placed in the sun or moon, generally during a celestial event, although not exclusively. Since the jars and water are clean, there is no need to strain this water before storing.

Floral waters, which are also called hydrosols, are distilled water to which botanicals have been added. This type of water is only limited to your imagination. To the point, you could create a specific water for your spellwork, which would impart even more energy to it. Believe it or not, you don’t need to purchase a still to create these waters; you can just make your own still. You’ll need a pot large enough to hold two bowls , with enough space for the botanicals and water to be below the second bowl. First, place a bowl upside down in the center of the pot. Then place your botanicals around the bowl, and cover them with water. Place a second bowl correct side up on top of the first bowl. Place the pot lid on upside down, and fill it with ice. Turn on the heat to a medium-low. As the water and botanicals heat up, vapor will condense against the cold lid and drip into the bowl. When the bowl is full, remove and pour into storage containers till use.

The last waters are actually alcohol preparations, such as the well-known Florida Water and Hoyts cologne. These are infused alcohol with different herbs, spices, roots, and barks. Again, these can be made to suit your needs and are the only waters that you don’t need to add alcohol to preserve them. That step is also a preference, not a hard rule.

With all of these different options, you have many opportunities to enhance your workings. Let me know if you have, do, or are considering making any of these. Enjoy!

Blessings!
