Magical Alphabets

The Virga Aurea – Seventy-two magical and other related alphabets.
Ars, Arte et Labore.

One of the many tools in our magickal repertoire are magickal alphabets. Not only can they be used to keep our work secret, but they can also be employed to help us focus on our work. The energy and concentration it takes to write with a magickal alphabet force us to pay close attention to the work. It is a wonderful way to help clear the mind and add some more energy to your workings.

Some of the most common magickal alphabets are Theban, Runes, Ogham, and even Hebrew, among many others. If none of these appeal to you, there is the chance you may wish to create your own alphabet. This would not only keep everyone from knowing your workings, but would also make your workings specifically linked to you.

I’m sure you have seen TV shows and movies that have agents and mystical languages, which may be very appealing to you. Use one or more of those for inspiration. Besides such shows and movies, you also have the alphabets that have been utilized for eons. But perhaps you are thinking that you just don’t have the time to do all of that work. It must be said that you will only get out of your workings what you put into them. While it’s true that you may not need to use a magickal alphabet for every spell and working, there will be times when may want or need that extra energy. You also shouldn’t rush yourself, either.

If you’re interested in learning about magickal alphabets, a good book is Nigel Pennick’s Magical Alphabets. The full name and information are below. There are a lot of fun and different alphabets for you to use and learn about. May your exploration take you to many places.

Blessings!
