Getting Ready for Samhain

It’s finally here the Halloween season and other than Christmas is the only holiday that actually has a season in the USA. In the old days, all the festivals were just celebrations that spanned a few days. In my area, Halloween started in August for some and will last till the big day. As a kid I was a lover of decorating for this month the only problem was my mother always said if it’s not October first then no decorations go out. I even tried to convince her that it’s only tomorrow and there calling for rain” So can’t I, please?” The answer was is it October first? “no” and then no.

If you are someone who can’t wait for the season to begin, good for you. My goal this month is to share some decoration beginnings and other fun things. In reality, this is one of the busy times of the year in ancient times. You have the final harvest which meant all the fields and garden beds needed to be put to rest before the big day. If not then it was left till spring. We also celebrate and honor our departed loved ones. Which is the main focus of this festival. Then there is the Witch’s New Year which brings forth a new magical year.

There is a lot to be had this time of year and a lot of fun to go with it. I hope you will check back with me every week to see what I have spooked up for you. Until then…

Blessing,

High Elder Redhawk
